![]() I use mp3s, mostly because they are universal and simple. I have a $50 5.1 surround sound system and it sounds amazing Rather than buying expensive speaker systems for your computer hoping they will make you MP3’s better, how about you encode them in a lossless format, it trully does enhance it all. Size is not an issue to me, but quality is the only exception is music on my minidisc palyer that is encoded in ATRAC format, that is the only time i will ever suffer the poor sound quality again. I will never downlaod a MP3 and never listen to encoded files. Since then i have never looked back i have 30Gb of music and thats only 1200 songs and about 55 hours worth of music. it will almost halve the size of a cd, so a cd that was 750Mb becomes about 400 Mb on disk, each song is about 40 Mb.Īnyway its 100% lossless meaning that the cd and it are bit for bit idential if encoded without errors e.g. ![]() i listened to it and the CD was sooooo much better that i instantly stopped encoding in Ogg and went in search of a lossless codec (basicly the difference between a TGA and a JPG or a movie a the cinema and a Divx encoded file) I was startled to find that a sogn which was suposed to be 100% out of the right hand speaker for the intro now became 80% right and 20% left hand speaker, the same was with the MP3. i thik thought Hmm is this encoded file actually that much worse or is it cd quality. I had 40+ cd’s that i own encoded as MP3s because i couldn’t find an encoder to encode to Ogg, when i did find one finally i started to re-encode them all as Ogg, i couldn’t particuly tell the difference in quality between the two but i accidentally started playing the song from the CD rather than the encoded Ogg file. i have never encoded an Mp3 less than 256Kbps, i have never encoded a Ogg file less than 350Kbps VBR and most of my FLAC files run at about 600-1100 Kbps) Hense i will never pay for an online music download unless it is CD quality (and i’m not tlaking the “CD quality” MP3’s which are 192Kbps. I also don’t particularly like OGG for the same reason, although becasue Ogg is opensource and of higher quality than Mp3 i suport it more.ĪCC i hear is good but i fear it suffers from the same issues as all LOSSY codec with sound quality loss. Personally i hate Mp3’s due to poor sound quality and poor stereo definition.
